LAV Projector Screens: Which Type Is Right for You?

LAV Projector Screens: Which Type Is Right for You?

Choosing a projector screen isn’t just about size — it’s about how the screen fits into your room and how it’s set up. There are four main projector screen types from LAV, each suited to a different use case: manual, tripod, motorised and tab-tensioned. Here’s a quick guide to help you pick the right projector screen in Singapore.

What to Consider Before You Buy

Two things matter more than brand or price when picking between projector screen types:

  • Projector throw distance. Standard-throw and short-throw projectors sit further from the screen, so small waves or ripples in the surface aren’t very noticeable. Ultra-short throw (UST) projectors sit just centimetres away, so even a slight curl in the fabric shows up as visible distortion — which is why UST setups need a tensioned surface, not a standard roll-down one.
  • How the screen fits your space. A fixed installation (manual or motorised) suits a room where the screen lives permanently in one spot. A tripod screen suits a space that’s used for other things when you’re not presenting, or where the screen needs to travel between rooms or venues.

Manual Pull-Down Screens — LAV Liza II

LAV Liza II Manual Pull-Down Projector Screen

The simplest and most affordable option. The LAV Liza II is a wall or ceiling-mounted screen that pulls down by hand and features an Automatic Braking System (ABS) for smooth, controlled retraction — no more snapping back or manual locking pins.

Best for classrooms, training rooms and meeting rooms where the screen stays in one fixed spot.

Tripod Screens — LAV Lena TS

LAV Lena TS Tripod Projector Screen

Need a screen that moves with you? The LAV Lena TS is a lightweight, foldable tripod screen — no wall mounting or permanent fixtures required. Just unfold the legs, extend the screen, and you’re ready to present.

Best for mobile presentations, pop-up training sessions and anywhere a permanent installation isn’t practical.

Motorised Screens — LAV Hariz-BN & Hariz Vista

For a cleaner, remote-controlled setup, LAV’s motorised range retracts into an aluminium casing at the touch of an RF remote.

LAV Hariz Vista Motorised Projector Screen
  • Hariz-BN — LAV’s premium motorised screen with a matt white surface, fire-retardant and fungus-resistant. Suitable for standard-throw projectors.
  • Hariz Vista — a matt white vinyl screen suitable for short-throw projector applications.

Best for conference rooms, home theatres and any space where a hidden-away, remote-operated screen looks tidier than a fixed manual one.

Note: neither Hariz-BN nor Hariz Vista is suitable for ultra-short throw (UST) projectors — for UST setups, see the Pinnacle Pro below.

Tab-Tensioned Screens — LAV Pinnacle Pro

LAV Pinnacle Pro Motorised Tab-Tensioned Projector Screen

If you’re using a short-throw or ultra-short throw (UST) projector, you need a tensioned screen surface to keep the image perfectly flat — an untensioned screen will show waviness at close projection distances. The LAV Pinnacle Pro is LAV’s motorised, tab-tensioned screen, engineered for exactly this: constant vertical and horizontal tensioning for a flat viewing surface, with premium CineMatt and CineGrey surface options.

Best for boardrooms and home theatres running short-throw or UST projectors, and for anyone who wants the sharpest, flattest image LAV offers.

Which of These Projector Screen Types Should You Choose?

Quick pick: Fixed wall spot → Liza II. Need portability → Lena TS. Want a remote-controlled hideaway screen → Hariz-BN or Hariz Vista. Running a short-throw or UST projector → Pinnacle Pro.
